Lifesaving heart drug passes major vote by FDA

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Hundreds of thousands of patients in this country are still waiting for Health Canada to approve a new drug for preventing strokes, which is said to be much easier and safer for heart patients.
Pradax has now received critical approval in the U.S., following a major drug trial. It involved 18,000 patients, including more than 1,000 in Canada, and is the largest test to date
Cardiologist and UBC Professor Dr. Charles Kerr says it’s one of several promising developments that will help people suffering from atrial fibrilation, and many other conditions requiring blood thinners. “There are several other drugs in the pipeline that are going to be available in probably the next two or three years. It’s going to create a totally different era of anti-coagulation.”
Pradax has received unanimous approval from an FDA panel. It’s said to be easier to use and safer than the current atrial fibrilation treatment, Warfarin.
