TORONTO, Ont. – Saturday is World Food Day and Food Banks Canada is calling on Canadians to support their local community food banks.
The 2010 theme is “united against hunger.” The goal of the day is to bring attention to efforts made to reduce and prevent hunger.
Each month, nearly 800,000 Canadians — about 350,000 of them in Ontario — are assisted by a food bank.
Food banks have said the demand has been rising since the economic downturn.
