Col. Williams given two concurrent life sentences

BELLEVILLE, ONT. (NEWS1130) – Col. Russell Williams is being sentenced to two concurrent life sentences with no possibility of parole for 25 years.

That sentence is automatic, with the judge presiding over the once decorated colonel’s gruesome case to determine jail time for Williams’ sex assaults and fetish break-ins.

Prosecutor Lee Burgess says the Crown won’t seeking dangerous offender status because it is “superfluous” and would only prolong the suffering of families.

Dangerous offender status would mean he’d be jailed indefinitely.

Andy Lloyd, the brother of victim Jessica Lloyd, said he had hoped the crown would for dangerous offender status, meaning Col. Williams would never get out of prision.

“We want him locked in there until the day he dies,” Lloyd said. “I’m sure that’s what everybody wants… just to get this over with and get back to normal life.”

Williams will still have to demonstrate he is not a danger to the public to get parole.

A portion of the disgraced colonel’s chilling videotaped police confession was made public Wednesday and starts with Col. Williams’s cocky smile.

Col. Williams was asked why these things happened.

“I’m pretty sure the answers don’t matter,” Col. Williams said.

The victim impact statements from the family of Marie France Comeau will be read Thursday and before sentencing Col. Williams will be given the chance to say something. There is no indication if he actually will.

The Crown wants to seize the sex killer’s Nissan Pathfinder and crush it. Police traced the killer through tire marks left by his Pathfinder found in a field near a house belonging to one of his murder victims.

Col. Williams used to command CFB Trenton and after the case is over military brass from the base will hold a news conference.
