Firewall collapses on a bakery in Langley

By

LANGLEY (NEWS1130) – It’s been a well-known fixture in Langley for more than 20 years, but today a bakery is closed for business after a firewall collapsed on it late last night.

When police arrived on the scene of 204th Street and Douglas Crescent, they say the windows of the “Accent on Pastries” were smashed and most of the roof has caved in.

The developer of the collapsed property says it was the firewall separating a four-storey building under construction from the neighbouring businesses that gave in.

Police say the thunderous sound was so loud, some people thought it was an explosion. Luckily no one was hurt.  Workers will be back at the site tomorrow to determine what caused the collapse.

Robert Dominick with WestStone Properties says they are ready to help out the businesses affected by the incident. “We will do whatever we can outside of the insurance to just make sure that they can continue in some way or another, or not lose their customer base, which is obviously important for small businesses.”

He says a travel agency and an accounting firm were also damaged in the collapse, but the condominium building under construction was not.
