Kelly Ellard to apply for parole in the new year

VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – One of Reena Virk’s killers wants out of jail. Suman Virk received a letter Monday informing her that Kelly Ellard plans to apply for parole in February.

“It will be a real surprise if she does apologize or says anything to us,” says Reena Virk’s mother, who points out she and her husband plan to attend the parole hearing in Abbotsford.

Virk was beaten and drowned in the Gorge waterway in Saanich November 14, 1997 — 13-years ago this Sunday. Ellard, who was 15 at the time, has always denied responsibility and has appealed her conviction multiple times. She was convicted of second-degree murder in 2005, and sentenced to life in prison, with no chance of parole for seven years.

Warran Glowatski, who was 16, was also convicted of second-degree murder. He was granted full parole in June of this year.
