A call for “blue jackets” for the Santa Claus Parade

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Some Olympic volunteers will get a chance to dust off those blue volunteer jackets for this year’s Santa Claus Parade.

Organizers are calling on 2010 volunteers to march in the parade, along with VANOC’s CEO John Furlong, come December 5th.

Michelle Woywitka with the parade says over 300,000 people are expected to attend the parade. “We’re having the VANOC CEO John Furlong be the grand Marshal for the parade this year and with him, we’re going to have a 100 to 150 of our blue jacket Vancouver Winter Games volunteers.”

She says it’s also a way to say thank you to thousands of people who made the Games possible. “They’ll be waving the flags of the countries that participated in the Games this year, and really it’s just to celebrate the Games that were here in Vancouver and show appreciation to all those volunteers who helped out.’
