Be nice, it’s World Kindness Day

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – When was the last time you did something nice for someone?  Well, today might be a good day to do just that.  It’s World Kindness Day.

Random acts of kindness seem to be a bit of a rarity these days.  Most of the people News1130 talked to had a tough time coming up with the last time they’ve seen a good deed from a total stranger.

But then we met Siddesh, who tells us he’s definitely seen the kindness of strangers.  “I was travelling when somebody took my wallet… I didn’t have money, tickets, or nothing.  But one stranger offered money.  He said, ‘Go and get the ticket and return the money whenever you want.’ He didn’t even leave his address.”

Amanda tells us she was impressed by a random act of kindness while she was working at Starbucks.  “A lady came in and she bought a gift card and told me to leave it there for the next person that came in to use it to pay for their purchase.  It was very interesting that she would do that for someone else.”

Peter describes a moment in Paris.  “We realized that to get into the subway with what we had, we’d have to go all the way out to the main station.  But along came this fellow, he gave us a ticket, and we got through.  He had no idea who we were.”

He adds, “I think if everybody did something like that every day, this world would be a better place.”  Psychologists say good deeds are contagious.
