Clearing the snow from bike lanes

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The City of Vancouver has mobilized its snow removal strategy for local roads, but what about keeping the bike lanes clear for all those cyclists?

The busiest bike routes will be dealt with first, such as the one on Dunsmuir, which opened just a couple of months ago.

The City of Vancouver’s manager of street operations Murray Wightman says they now have equipment to deal with the lanes.  “We’re going to be trying some new techniques out there.  Instead of the salt, the rock salt I put down, it is a water and salt mix and we’ll be coating the bike lanes with that.”

As for plowing, they do have a plan in place, although he adds there is no guarantee that all the bike lanes will be snow free.
