BC worried risk to junior markets from national regulator

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The head of the BC Securities Commission is worried a national securities regulator might focus too closely on senior markets and make it harder for small companies to raise money in the junior market.

Executive Director Paul Bourque says “intruding when not necessary, and imposing costly and cumbersome requirements is especially damaging to junior markets.”

He doubts that it would be deliberate but adds “a national regulator is going to have its hands full on issues affecting primarily senior markets.”

Bourque also worries that “local expertise in regulating the junior markets may be lost, or not heeded” by a national regulator.
