Man shot during arrest by Kamloops RCMP

KAMLOOPS (NEWS1130) – A 33-year-old man is recovering in hospital, after being shot by police at Sun Peaks.

It happened yesterday afternoon, as two officers were arresting the man for uttering threats. Police say that’s when he pulled a gun and pointed it at the Mounties, forcing the officers to open fire.

Sun Peaks Mayor Al Raine says the suspect was not well known in the community. “The Fire Department said to me that they thought they recognized the person as somebody they’d seen in the community, but they didn’t know the person and couldn’t confirm any identification.”

A loaded handgun was found at the scene.  The man had to be taken to hospital for injuries believed to be non-life threatening.

The Lethbridge Regional Police Service will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting.
