Langley mom faces hefty dental bill over medical condition

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A Langley mom is desperately trying to convince the government to pay for her extensive dental surgery, if she can’t come up with $30,000 of her own.

Tracey Woods has gastroparesis, a GI disorder where she has trouble digesting food.

Her husband Scott Villett says she is suffering from malnutrition and her condition makes her throw up so much, it’s ruining her teeth. “A lot of damage to her teeth. Doctors are saying they don’t want to put dentures in, because they’re afraid they are not going to stay in place. With all the vomiting, we can’t do implants.”

If she can’t get the work done, Villett there’s says one option left. “She loses her teeth and her intake goes down because of it.  They’re going to want to put another feeding tube back in her and then they’re going to put her in a long-term care home.  Because that’s the only way the feed is going to be covered.”

And he’s praying it doesn’t come to that. “I can’t even think of it right now, because it makes me so sad thinking about it.  I’ve already lost everything else. I don’t want to lose my wife right now; I don’t think I could handle that.”

Now the family is looking at a $30,000 dental bill.  Over the last few years, he says they have lost their house. He says it has also been very difficult on his kids.

Edible Arrangements in Langley has organized a bottle drive to raise money for the family on Sunday December 19th.
