Happy Nude Year!

SURREY (NEWS1130) – As if a dip in the ocean on January 1 isn’t extreme enough, but there is a group that’s going to take that plunge in their birthday suits.

If you see a group of shivering naked people on Crescent Rock Beach on New Year’s Day, don’t be alarmed.  They’re there for the 5th annual “Nude Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim.”

Surrey United Naturists president Don Pitcairn they’re expecting anywhere from 15 to 50 people to take the plunge this year.  “By the time the swim goes, there are always a lot of people to wish us on and check out the scenery.”

Of course, the consequences for swimming in cold water were made famous by Seinfeld’s George Costanza’s “shrinkage” problem.

Pitcairn says that episode hit close to home.  “Well, let’s just say that George was right.”  Swimmers and spectators are asked to make a donation as all proceeds will go to the War Amps.
