Watts wants to develop Surrey Central quicker

By

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Surrey mayor Dianne Watts says she wants Surrey Central to develop faster.  The area is currently in a state of transition.  “I would like to see things move a little faster, but that’s just my triple-A personality.”

Surrey Central and Whalley have suffered from a tough image with crime and underdevelopment, but Watts adds new big projects coming online are generating change.

“You’ve got our regional library. You’ve got Simon Fraser University there.  You’ve got the city hall [moving] up there.  We’ll be developing our senior’s centre.  You’ve got a different demographic and you’re putting the influx of population as opposed to just leaving it to their own devices.”

She explains the city’s Homelessness and Housing Foundation has helped find 300 people permanent housing.

Watts looks back

Despite plenty of encouragement and support, Watts sounds content to finish the year out of the Liberal leadership race. She says people can accomplish much more when they work together.

“You know, I wish them a lot of luck in the political realm in Victoria. I think it’s going to be an interesting time for all of us,” she ponders.

She believes transportation will be among the top issues she tackles in the new year.
