BUFFALO, NY  (NEWS1130) – Canada knocked off the Americans 4-1 at the World Junior Hockey Championship. Canada meets Russia in Wednesdays Gold Medal game.

In a fast-paced, emotion-filled affair, three players from BC helped Canada achieve victory. Kelowna’s Curtis Hamilton pounced on his own rebound to open the scoring. The game-winning goal deflected by Quinton Howden was set up by a great pass by Brett Connolly of Prince George. Canada’s third goal came from Ryan Johansen of Port Moody in the second period. The Portland Winterhawk batted in a rebound on a two man advantage.

Zack Kassian scored on a break away six minutes into the third to round out the Canadian goal deposits. Chris Brown scored the lone American marker. Both goalies were named the player of the game for their respective teams: Mark Visentin for Canada and Jack Campbell for USA.

Canada will play in their tenth straight Gold Medal final on Wednesday at 4:30pm against Russia.
