If province banned fake and baking, businesses would suffer

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Victoria is the first city to ban teens from tanning, but are other cities far behind? A local store says a BC ban could mean a major hit to business around prom season.

Shannon Uhrin owns the Casa Del Sol Tanning Studio in Mission. She says at prom season, “We’re busy at that point. From after school to eight at night, probably 50 per cent of our clientele would be prom tanners.”

Uhrin says March, April, and May are the big tanning months.

She adds if teens are tanning, they need to go to a certified salon where staff ask for ID or for parent signatures for those under 18. “They have to have educated people working in the salons. I wouldn’t send my daughter or son to a salon where somebody was going to let them… you know, have the customer tell them how long they were going to tan.”
