Students apologize to Pitt Meadows sex assault victim

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It was a way for some students to make up for some nasty comments made online about what happened to a girl who was apparently raped at a rave last September.

The students have sent letters to say “sorry.”

Seamus Nesling speaks for the School District that includes Maple Ridge, and the school where some teens posted nasty comments about what happened to a 16-year-old girl to some online forums.

He says, “One of the approaches we use is something called ‘restorative justice’… We bring students together and get them to see for themselves just what [the consequences are] of what they may have done.”

Nesling tells us the four or five students who posted the comments came up with the idea to write letters of apology and those letters have been given to the girl. He adds he’s happy the teens have decided to take ownership for what they’ve done.
