Teaching female politicians to make their voices heard

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Our march to the polls is covered extensively in BC, but one important December election on the other side of the world barely made a ripple in the mainstream consciousness.

Local communications expert Pamela Hart has just returned from Kosovo, country forced into a snap election at a very critical time in the country’s history.

She’s been teaching female politicians there how to make their voices heard in this formative time. “Although there is a required number of women who will be in Parliament, these women don’t necessarily have much power there, because they haven’t built much of a constituency. So what you have is women in the Parliament, but they are not actually able to get very much done.”

She says women need to get into politics in that part of the world, because they tend to take more interest in issues like hospital care and education.
