VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A former mayor and premier has joined the fight against taller towers in downtown Vancouver.
City Council is considering a proposal today to increase height restrictions up to 15 storeys. Mike Harcourt tells The Vancouver Sun there is a lot of fear from people living in the Downtown Eastside they will be pushed from their homes.
Harcourt has joined dozens of university professors and city planners who say affordable housing will dry up if high-rises are allowed to go in.
He is now the chair of the Building Community Society of Greater Vancouver.
