Another complaint lodged against Kelowna RCMP

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The case of the Kelowna Mountie who kicked a man in the face is facing more criticism.

The BC Civil Liberties Association has now filed a complaint against Cst. Geoff Mantler, plus the detachment’s superintendent and media relations officer.

It alleges Mantler used excessive force, but it also accused the department of releasing inaccurate information to the media, as to the reasons for the arrest.

The force had argued Tavares was being investigated for a domestic abuse situation, but Tavares and his ex-wife both say they don’t know where those allegations would have come from.

Abbotsford police have recommended Mantler be charged with assault.
