VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The terror attack at Moscow’s largest airport is the first time an arrivals lounge has been targeted.
John Thompson with the Mackenzie Institute, an anti-terrorism think tank, says no one has actually considered guarding arrivals areas in the past.
He says it is possible to beef up security. “Nobody can really afford it. If you’re going to have to go through security screening to meet Grandma when she comes home from Miami or to meet your business partner, everyone is going to say ‘to heck with it’…and go get a cab.'”
Thompson adds an airport actually becomes more difficult to guard when constant security changes are made.
