VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s the same gas pouring through the pipes, but saying “so long” to Terasen has proved costly for local homeowners. Those who decided to get their gas through a third party marketer are paying a whole lot more.
The BC market was opened up a few years back, with newcomers offering gas at fixed prices for terms of one to five years, instead of the variable rate offered by Terasen.
Documents filed with the BC Utilities Commission finds those who ditched Terasen have been paying almost 50 per cent more.
About a fifth of homeowners on the Terasen gas network have made the switch to outside natural gas sellers.
