Kerrisdale doesn’t want tall towers

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s a neighbourhood with mostly single family homes. People living in Kerrisdale, near 57th and Granville, think 13 and 14 storey towers would create a host of problems.

John Brimacombe, who speaks for the Shannon Mews Neighbours Association says making the neighbourhood that much more dense will also create traffic problems and could lower their own property values. “The 14 storey blocks don’t go very well with the single family dwellings.”

Brimacombe says Wall Financial Corporation is proposing to build hundreds of new rental and condo units on the 10 acre Shannon Estate site.

About 350 people live there now, but the goal is to have 1,500. “The neighbours are for somewhat higher density, in the sense that for more sort of, townhouse development, maybe even four story apartments in some form would probably be fine.”

The final draft proposal is due at the end of February.
