VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Port Metro Vancouver says 2010 saw its total tonnage increase 16 per cent to 118 million tonnes, with record volumes in key sectors.
CEO Robin Sylvester says, “Port businesses have every reason to celebrate a hard-earned recovery that exceeded expectations.”
The port authority says export volumes were boosted by record amounts of coal which were up 25 per cent, and grain which rose eight per cent. Also, the number of containers rose 17 per cent to a record.
Canada’s largest port depends on Asia for business from the export of commodities and the import of finished goods. As we reported earlier, cruise ship visits fell sharply in 2010.
