Survey: Transit system sparked change in habits after Games

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Taking transit was the thing to do through the 2010 Olympics and almost half the commuters who tried it kept on riding the trains and buses.  But many apparently couldn’t hack it and drifted back to driving.

A survey through the summer for the Vancouver Board of Trade says 44 per cent of commuters kept on using transit after the Games.

The numbers show 40 per cent stopped immediately after the Olympics and 16 per cent tried transit for a while before giving up because of the added time, inconvenience and reduced service.

It was mostly people outside the city of Vancouver who went back to their cars and the Transportation Legacies Survey suggests more park-and-rides might draw them back to taking transit.
