‘Reform the BC Strata Act now’

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They’ve tried it for over 10 years and it’s still not working.  Several homeowners in this province are calling on provincial leadership candidates to reform the BC Strata Act now.

The act was written in 1998 and came into effect in 2000.

Deryk Norton with the Vancouver Island Strata Owners Association says there are so many problems surrounding accountability, accessing information and dealing with disputes.

“At a minimum, I think there should be a commitment of the candidate to have a comprehensive review of strata legislation, and to do that review with public consultation with strata owners.”

He adds condos now make up more than half of all properties in Metro Vancouver and the issues have been ignored long enough.
