Managing your energy bill when the cold hits

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – When the temperature dips, heating bills go up. Our power consumption should see a spike this weekend with sub-zero temperatures in the forecast.

Marcus Long with Terasen says a lot of people will be cranking their thermostats over the next few days. “Gas used during this cold weather is about two times the average historical usage for this time of year. But despite the cold weather, it’s a great opportunity to remind customers to continue using energy wisely to help keep the cost down.”

He says you can save up to 15 per cent on your bill by simply setting your thermostat three degrees below normal when you are not at home or sleeping. Long says closing the vents to empty rooms can also help.
