News1130 Sports weekend round-up

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Big sports fan? Here’s a look at what’s happening this weekend:

WHL

The Vancouver Giants will honour one of the franchise’s most popular players at the final Giants Alumni Night of the year tonight at the Coliseum.

Former Memorial Cup MVP and current Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic will be entered into the Giants Ring of Honour prior to the Giants’ game versus the Chilliwack Bruins.  The first 500 fans tonight will receive a Milan Lucic bobblehead doll as he joins recent inductees Brett Festerling, Andrej Meszaros, Gilbert Brule, and Mark Fistric.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

NHL

The Vancouver Canucks will continue their homestand against Milan Lucic and the Boston Bruins tomorrow night at Rogers Arena. The Canucks still own a one point lead on the Philadelphia Flyers for first overall in the National Hockey League after Thursday’s 3-2 win over the St Louis Blues.

The Bruins are currently third in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, only two points back of second-place Tampa Bay. The teams haven’t met since last February when the Canucks beat Boston 3-2 in a shootout in Boston. Faceoff tomorrow is 7 p.m.

AHL

The Abbotsford Heat welcome Boston’s American Hockey League affiliate to Abbotsford for a pair of weekend games starting tonight.

The visit by the Providence Bruins will wrap up a six-game homestand for the Heat. Providence’s chances of making the AHL playoffs are slim as they sit 19 points out of a playoff spot. Port Coquitlam’s Zach Hamill, the all-time scoring leader of the WHL’s Everett Silvertips plays for Providence.

Game time is 7 p.m.

BCHL

The BC Hockey League playoffs begin tonight. Coquitlam and Surrey open their Coastal Division quarterfinal tonight in Surrey while Alberni Valley visits Langley. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
