Polygamous marriages investigated by the RCMP

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The RCMP is once again looking into the community of Bountiful after evidence surfaced at least eight teenage girls were sent to the US to be married into polygamous unions.

The claims have come out at the ongoing trial looking at Canada’s polygamy law.

Corporal Annie Linteau says the Attorney General’s office sent Mounties information this week. “Some of the information that we do have, it appears that some underage girls were taken to the United States for marriage purposes. That is really all I can say at this point, and again those are allegations.

The RCMP has investigated Bountiful before, but charges against two of the leaders were thrown out on technical grounds.
