VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – New research out of UBC suggests patients who have an adverse effect from misusing medications are adding a $49 million burden to already strained emergency rooms in BC.
A team says those reactions to meds result in a 20 per cent higher rate of outpatient health care needs, and a 50 per cent higher risk of a longer hospital stay.
The team is working on a tool that will better screen patients for those risks.
