VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The snow isn’t stopping big crowds trying to re-live the Olympic magic. Hundreds, if not thousands have turned out at Granville Street between Georgia and Smithe for what was dubbed the “Gold Medal Celebration Party.”
News1130’s Amelia John was there and says, “Police are on the scene and there have been a few arrests. The party is very reminiscent of the celebration after last year’s gold medal hockey game. The crowd seems very young and the party is very rowdy.”
The event is not sanctioned by the city, instead being organized via Facebook by Tom and Gary’s Decentralized Dance Party.
As of last count over 10,000 people had RSVP’ed to show, wearing elaborate costumes and sporting boom boxes.
