Anti-HST activists get a green light for another recall

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – Just two weeks after a planned recall against an Interior BC Liberal was called off, anti-HST activists have won approval to attempt to unseat another Liberal MLA.

Elections BC has given the green light for a recall campaign against Marc Dalton in his riding of Maple Ridge-Mission, and canvassers will have 60 days beginning next Thursday to collect 14,082 signatures.

Opponents of the HST have vowed to target sitting Liberal politicians with the province’s unique recall legislation, but so far they’ve been unsuccessful in forcing by-elections in two other ridings.

Last month, organizers of a planned recall against Donna Barnett in her riding of Cariboo-Chilcotin cancelled the effort before it began, citing the failure of the very first recall petition.

Canvassers in the Victoria area failed to collect enough signatures to unseat Science and Universities Minister Ida Chong in her riding of Oak Bay-Gordon Head.

There are two other recall efforts currently underway, targeting Terry Lake in Kamloops-North-Thompson and Don McRae in his Vancouver Island riding of Comox.
