OTTAWA, Ont. – A Canadian military transport touched down in Malta Thursday as another 31 evacuees fled mass chaos in Libya.
According to a spokesman for the country’s overseas headquarters, 14 of the passengers aboard the Hercules aircraft were Canadians while the rest were foreign nationals.
Major Andre Salloum said the plane returned from Tripoli without incident.
The arrival followed the capture of three Dutch commandos and their helicopter in a botched rescue attempt in territory controlled by forces loyal to dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
