Surrey school trustees want meeting with Clark

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – BC’s largest school district says its schools are overflowing and the province needs to do something about it. Surrey trustees say they want to sit down with the premier designate as soon as possible.

Surrey trustee Ijaz Chatha says overcrowded schools are a huge problem. He says portables and extending the school day are just band-aid solutions. “Other than the funding for seismic upgrade and replacement, there has been no capital funding for new schools since 2005.”

Trustees have been expressing those concerns to Education Ministers for years, and now they want to talk to Christy Clark.

A motion demanding a meeting with Clark will be discussed next week. There will also be a rally in Surrey this weekend to put pressure on the province for more funding.
