RCMP Deputy Commissioner Gary Bass retiring

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – He’s lived in every province and territory in Canada, and helped set up things like the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team and the gang task force.

Now, RCMP Deputy Commissioner Gary Bass is calling it a career. He says he’s proud of a lot of the work he and his colleagues have done — like the Air India case.

“The file progressed significantly in that Reyat was found responsible for two bombings and he’s now serving time for perjury,” he says. “So, could it be better? Yes. But [I’m] certainly pleased that that much has been done.”

Bass is still calling for an independent investigation of the RCMP and hopes the force becomes more open and accountable to the public. He adds it’s important that the public has faith in the RCMP and police work is being done “properly.”
