Sixty-two original Olympic Village buyers suing

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They want their money back. Some of the original buyers in what’s now known as the Village on False Creek are suing, claiming they paid for luxury and got a lot less.

Lawyer Bryan Baynham filed the suits on behalf of 62 buyers who purchased pre-sale condos. He says they want their money back because the suites were advertised as world-class luxury, but what they got was anything but.

“Heating didn’t work in many of the units for several days,” he says. “They had to bring in heaters. We’ve had one client [who reported] a major leak in his ceiling back in November.”

“We’ve got another client who owned a $1.3 million unit and he hasn’t had heat in it for four months. Now they’ve had to tear out the ceiling to find out what the problem with the heating system is,” he tells us.

Some owners say the bedrooms are so small they can’t open their closet without hitting the bed. The suit claims the documents that were originally signed never listed the City of Vancouver as the real owner.

Price could also be a factor; the condos were put on sale at reduced prices last month.
