Defence Minister can’t rule out use of ground troops in Libya

Canada’s defence minister hasn’t ruled out the possibility Canadian troops could be used on the ground in Libya.

As the situation evolves in Libya the defence minister said he has kept most options open including the use of troops hoped we won’t have to go that far.

HMCS Charlottetown is in the waters off the Libyan coast and may also be used to enforce the blockade that is being set up to stop any shipments of weapons.

Mackay told 1310News that me Canada’s 3 month timeline is not set in stone.

Six CF-18 fighter jets have been on standby in Italy and once the pilots get their marching orders they are expected to begin taking part in the no fly-zone Monday.
