Are British Columbians getting election fatigue?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – With the provincial NDP convention in April, the federal election in May, the HST referendum in June and possible provincial election, are British Columbians getting political sensory overload?

Many of the people News1130 spoke with are not too thrilled about having to vote at least three, and perhaps four, times this year.

This man we talked to says, “In a lot of ways, I think it’s a waste of taxpayers’ money. All the elections, too many too soon.”

That’s a sentiment expressed by many British Columbians, in the midst of a year that promises many political campaigns, but then there are others who don’t blame the politicians themselves. “It seems like the couple of the elections, mostly the federal election, are more of a coincidence than anything else, as far as timing is concerned.”

Another person we spoke with points out more people should be compelled to vote if they don’t want another minority government. “Paying a lot more attention to it. I mean, if we get more people out to vote, it wouldn’t happen.”

Still others are interested in the federal campaign, “The growing gap between rich and poor, seems to me that divides us all… closing that gap is what makes us a country.”
