Woman sexually assaulted in Saanich

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There is a warning from Saanich police after a disturbing sexual assault.

The 20 year-old woman had been at a party and was walking with a group of friends Friday night when she became separated from them.

Sergeant Dean Jantzen with Saanich Police says a car with four men inside pulled over, and she was forced inside the car. “From there, they drove around. It looks like they drove around the Victoria area, and she was assaulted multiple times, including [that] of a sexual nature as well.”

Jantzen says she didn’t know any of the men, and because it’s a “stranger attack,” they’re warning women to be careful when walking alone.

While her physical injuries aren’t serious, police say the young woman is traumatized by what happened. Police don’t have a description of the suspects or vehicle, but say it was a four-door model.

If you have any information, you’re asked to give the Saanich Police a call.

Saanich Police Detectives have the following personal safety suggestions for women in the area:

1. Travel in groups and stick to well lit areas.
2. Keep your cell phone.
3. Don’t accept drinks from people you don’t know and be mindful of leaving your drink unattended.
4. If you are drinking, plan a safe ride home with people you know or by cab. If using public transit, travel with friends.
