May excluded from leadership debate; fights familiar battle

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There’s no room at the table for the leader of the federal Green Party. Elizabeth May is planning to fight for an invite to the televised leadership debate.

May has been in this position before. But back in 2008, West Vancouver MP Blair Wilson helped secure the Green Party leader a place at the podium by technically meeting the broadcast consortium’s minimum requirement.

This time, sitting MP or not, voters we spoke to say May should be included.

“She should be allowed,” says one man. “I don’t have a problem with having a fourth candidate having their say. More exposure, more ideas. [It’s] all-around better.”

“There’s plenty of people out there who do support the Green party, so I believe she should be allowed to be involved in the debate as well, absolutely,” says another.

Both the Liberals and the NDP support May’s participation in any televised leadership debates tied to Canada’s vote this spring.
