News1130 Series: Courage to Come Back Awards

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They are inspiring, generous and humble.  News1130 has begun a series to profile the winners of the 2011 Courage to Come Back Awards with this look at Jerome Bouvier.

By the time Bouvier was 20-years-old, he was neck-high in cocaine.  He became addicted as a young man in the fast paced, hard living world of harness racing.

Bouvier’s life changed forever one day while waterskiing, the boat went one way, and he another.

“I remember the doctor coming in to me, sitting down and asking me a question.  “How would you like to hear it?’  And I said, ‘Straight up.’  He looked at me and he said ‘You’ll never walk again.  Period.'”

Years later he turned his life around and today is the head of the PoCoMo Youth Services Society, which runs an outreach bus for young people in the Tri-Cities.

His is a life filled with lessons learned the hard way, including this one.  “It’s not what happens to you, it’s how you react to what happened to you.”

The awards are being handed out May 12th.

Check back next Monday when we introduce you to the next Courage to Come Back Awards winner
