No further charges against Kelowna Mountie

By

KELOWNA (NEWS1130) – A Kelowna mountie charged with assault after being videotaped kicking a man in the head won’t be charged after a traffic stop arrest.

Jeremy Packer claimed an officer punched him in the head after being pulled over while towing a boat, but the Crown’s Neil Mackenzie says the force Constable Geoff Mantler used to arrest Packer was reasonable. “Police had received some information that the boat had been stolen. Police dispatched and received some information that the boat was a subject of some sort of civil dispute. That information was not all passed on to the officers at the time.”

Mackenzie says Mantler admitted to hitting the man, but he was worried he might reach for Mantler’s gun, which had fallen out of his holster.
