Nurses want MPs to hear overcrowding concerns

By

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – Nurses hope MPs hear their cries about overcrowding with a federal election looming.  They feel like the province has ignored their concerns.

It’s certainly not the first time nurses have complained about overcrowding.  But after News1130 first broke the story about Tim Hortons triage care at Royal Columbian Hospital last month, the BC Nurses Union says the province hasn’t responded to its concerns.

Local representative Debbie Picco says they need to re-address how money is being spent.  “Why are there more people in bed?  Why are people leaving the hospital sooner than they should be?  Why are people in unsafe conditions?  That money needs to be looked at, as to where it’s going and how it’s being spent.”

It’s not just ERs that are suffering, a single long-term or palliative care nurse can apparently be assigned to between 45 and 90 patients.
