Richmond Hospital’s ER room renovated and expanded

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Richmond Hospital’s newly expanded Emergency Room is now open. It has new technology never seen before in BC hospitals.

Staff members are going to have Star Trek like voice activated communication badges.

Health Minister Mike de Jong says the hospital is going where no ER in BC has gone before. “To be able to consult quickly, directly with colleagues. That is all part of what you are going to see unveiled here for the first time in an emergency room facility in British Columbia…This is the kind of technological applications that are going to have an impact on a day-to-day basis in providing for more efficient and more focused care.”

The new expanded ER will have overflow beds, a dedicated pediatric resuscitation room and better security throughout. There will also be a larger waiting room and triage area.

The ER expansion is the third and final phase of a $10 million renovation project at Richmond Hospital.
