Some BC Transit workers said to be boycotting atheist ads

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There are reports a handful of BC Transit employees are refusing to drive buses that carry ads questioning the existence of God.

Justin Trottier with the Centre for Inquiry Canada that is behind the ads says that is news to him.

He says the ads that say “There’s probably no god. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life” were originally turned down by BC Transit.  “But in a year or so, a number of major things has changed. Their policy, which was a blanket prohibition on any provocative ads, so no ideological, religious or political ads, that actually had to be changed because of a Supreme Court challenge.”

He says the court ruled that buses were public spaces, where free speech should be protected.

The ads are currently running on buses in Kelowna and Kamloops, with plans to run them in other municipalities in BC.
