Harper appeals to traditional Liberals to help Conservatives fight NDP surge

By

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s latest appeal for a majority government is now to Liberals.

The Conservative leader told a rally in Richmond Hill north of Toronto today that the choice in Monday’s vote is between a Tory majority or an NDP-led government.

And he said he wants traditional Liberals to turn to him to keep Jack Layton’s “extreme” agenda from wrecking the economic recovery, noting that the Liberal platform is similar to the NDP’s.

Harper said the vast majority of traditional Liberals don’t support such a platform.

He called on voters who would normally support the Liberal party to back the Conservative’s mainstream platform.

Harper said the New Democrats would raise taxes to support a $70-billion rise in federal spending in their platform including $20 billion in carbon taxes.
