Man charged with threatening MLA

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A member of the United Steelworkers union has been charged with uttering death threats against well-known Vancouver NDP MLA Jenny Kwan and her family.

The Crown says Kim Burton Pollock has been charged with uttering threats to Kwan’s husband to kill or hurt him, Kwan and their children along with mischief to their property. The threats are said to have been uttered in early December and April first of this year.

In court documents, Pollock is accused of throwing feces on the roof of Kwan’s home.

Kwan had endured a storm of criticism for leading the charge to oust former party leader Carole James and there were calls for her to step down as well. Pollock had earlier sounded off on a union blog about how both the BC Liberals and BC NDP were ‘screwed up.’

Kim Pollock is expected to appear in court May 12.  A special prosecutor was appointed to look into the case because Kwan is an MLA.
