Expect long lines at the border, ferries this long weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Bars and pubs won’t be the only hot spots on this long weekend. Just ahead of the Victoria Day break, News1130 is looking at what to expect at the border crossings and at BC Ferries.

More than 80 extra sailings have been added and Deb Marshall with BC Ferries says most of those sailings are between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay. “That’s our busiest route. But we have also added sailings between Horseshoe Bay and Departure Bay, as well as Horseshoe Bay and Langdale.”

Volume is expected to start building this evening and tomorrow morning. But Marshall says if you don’t have a reservation, you should be at the terminal at least an hour in advance.

It will also be a busy few days at the border crossings.

News1130 Traffic Reporter Bruce Williams has been dealing with long weekend lineups for years. “We’ll probably see things starting to build tomorrow morning. [It’s] usually about 7 or 8 a.m.; you see the lineups build, especially for the Blaine Crossings — Peace Arch and Pacific Highway.”

He says coming back into Canada, we will start to see things getting busy on Monday afternoon. Listen for traffic updates on News1130 every 10 minutes on the ones. Get up to the minute updates on Twitter @News1130Traffic.
