Milestone reached for Environment Canada

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Lordy, lordy.  Look who’s 40!  The City of Vancouver and the federal government are celebrating the 40th anniversary of Environment Canada.  But critics in the green community feel there is still a lot of work do to.

Joe Foy with the Wilderness Committee says there is much to celebrate, but feels this is no time to rest on laurels.

“The tar sands continues to get bigger and bigger with more and more pollution impacts on wildlife and human health.  We here are faced with various pipelines.  One of them [with] expansion into Vancouver [is] proposed to ship even more crude oil out of our port.”

He says we should be happy we have an Environment Canada but feels all green agencies must be strengthened.

The City of Vancouver will declare June 11th as Environment Canada Day.
