The stars won’t be out at Empire Field

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Whitecaps FC host the New York Red Bulls this afternoon and will do so with the Red Bulls missing their two top stars.

Former Arsenal and Barcelona striker Thierry Henry and Mexican international defender Rafael Marquez will not hit the pitch at Empire Field.  Henry did not travel with the team due to a knee injury, while Marquez is not in Vancouver due to commitments with the Mexican national team.

On the injury front for the Whitecaps, strikers Atiba Harris (knee) and Long Tan (foot), as well as midfielder John Thorrington (calf) will not play.

The ‘Caps are looking to snap a 10-match winless streak.  Vancouver has not won a match since beating Toronto FC on the opening day of the season back on March 19th and find themselves in the basement of the Western Conference standings with just eight points.

Today’s meeting is the first of two between the two clubs this season. The two will meet again on September 10th at Red Bull Arena.

Kick-off is at 2:30 p.m.
