Toronto councillor wants to give Leafs fans an alternative

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Sure, Winnipeg got its NHL team back — but does Toronto really need two?

It sure must be hard to watch the West win — especially when your own team just can’t get it right. One Toronto city councillor is convinced the next time a franchise leaves the States, it should head straight for TO.

We spoke to one Vancouver fan who is not impressed. “They don’t need another team in Ontario. They’ve got two as it is. They’ve got one in Toronto [and] one in Ottawa.”

Another Vancouverite says it comes down to East-West rivalry. “Hockey fans are rampant. They’re dedicated and a little bit nutty sometimes… With Canucks fever going around, it’s not a surprise. Toronto’s always trying to one-up Vancouver and vice versa.”

Councillor Josh Colle has reportedly written to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Toronto mayor Rob Ford. Cole has been quoted saying, “Let’s play some offence instead of defence; let’s forcheck a little bit.”
